"Everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self doubt." - Sylvia Plath

Fascinating and hilarious man. The 'C.V' portion was so interesting that it could have gone on longer, and the 'On Writing' portion was both insightful and inspiring. There were many moments when I wanted to put the book down and just write, which I think is the whole point. Now I want to read some of King's actual books, but the fact that i'm a huge scaredy-cat might stand in the way.
Finished reading this book approximately five minutes ago. Current symptoms: sweaty palms, pounding heart beat, headache. Holy fuck.
Just finished reading this for my Literature for Young Adults class. I enjoyed the concept and even enjoyed analyzing it for class, but I have come to the conclusion that this book is actually more fun to talk about than it is to actually read. That may have more to do with the writing style of the late 1800s than the story itself, however.
Great Dystopian book on par with The Hunger Games and Divergent. Very well written with an interesting world/plot and very likable characters. Pissed that I have to wait for the second one to come out!
I first read this about 7 years ago when I kept hearing that it was "the best book ever" and everyone's instant favorite. I guess it was too overhyped then because I didn't care for it all that much. I decided to give it another try after seeing the trailer for the movie. Turns out, I was able to appreciate it much more this time around and enjoy it for the beautiful writing. It may still be overhyped, but it is a damn good book.

I gave Birthmarked three stars because it took me a long time to get into it, and I often found that the characters weren't very believable. Things happened too quickly at certain points in the book and I just didn't buy it. That being said, the world was very interesting and I enjoyed the end. I will most likely pick up the next book, but may not right away.
